“Condemned” Celebrates 40th Anniversary with a Special Film Screening

“Condemned”,  the groundbreaking film that captivated audiences four decades ago, is set to commemorate its 40th anniversary with a film screening this May 14th, at UPFI Film Center in UP Diliman.

“Condemned” follows the story of Yolly, a flower vendor, and her brother Efren, a driver who secretly works as a hired hitman for a ruthless money-laundering lady, named Connie. The siblings find themselves in grave danger when Yolly witnesses a rape and murder committed by Connie’s son.

Directed by Mario O’Hara, this neo-noir film depicts the harsh realities of big city life, tackling the prevalence of corruption and abuses of power. Starring the National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, Nora Aunor, alongside a stellar cast including Gloria Romero, Gina Alajar, Rio Locsin, Ricky Davao, and Dan Alvaro, “Condemned” promises to captivate audiences with its powerful performances and gripping narrative.

Alongside the film screening, the event will host an awarding ceremony to recognize the outstanding contributions of Nora Aunor, Gloria Romero, and writer Frank Rivera, to the Philippine film industy. Attendees can look forward to the presence of some cast and crew members at the event.

The film screening is free and open to the public and can serve as an academic and cultural activity for various organizations. Organized by EdukSine and UPFI Film Center, the initiative aims to spotlight the beauty of Philippine cinema and foster understanding and appreciation for local films, particularly among younger generations.
