Last March 20, 2024 at Malacañang, Manila – EdukSine Production Corporation, in collaboration with the Office of the President Gender and Development Focal Point System and Development Focal Point System, culminated an unforgettable celebration of National Women’s Month with an inspiring film showcase held at the esteemed Social Hall of the Mabini Building in Malacañang.
The event commenced with a poignant morning screening of “Siglo ng Kalinga (2023),” a gripping tale produced by Carl Balita Productions and directed by Lemuel Lorca. The film beautifully intertwines the narratives of two devoted nurses, Anna and Estacia, with the extraordinary life of Anastacia Giron Tupas (AGT), the pioneering figure behind the Philippine Nurses Association. Despite facing formidable challenges in the 1920s, AGT fearlessly paved the way for improved nursing conditions in the country. The esteemed guests, including Joy Ras, Tads Obach, Bambi Rojas, Jerrick David, and Dr. Carl Balita, engaged in a thought-provoking talkback session following the screening.
Continuing the cinematic journey, the audience was treated to a second screening of the timeless classic “Pinay American Style (1979)” directed by the legendary Elwood “El Maestro” Perez produced by Real Films. The film, set against the backdrop of New York, delves into the complexities of Filipino identity and the pursuit of the American dream. The presence of Ms. Vilma Santos-Recto, the iconic Star for All Seasons, and Master Director Elwood Perez added a touch of nostalgia as they reminisced about the making of the film and its enduring relevance.
The event was made even more special by the overwhelming support of the Vilmanians, who flocked to the occasion to show their love and admiration for their beloved idol, Ms. Vilma Santos-Recto.
In recognition of their invaluable contributions to Philippine cinema and culture, EdukSine Production Corporation proudly presented the following awards:
